Where is the Salvation Army Auction?

Its sad when you go into a salvation army and see the outrageous prices on the stuff given to them. Agree????

  • Its not just the salvation army but other charity related places that recieve donations and then turn aroun and expect to get top dollar for it. Any amount will be more money than they started with. Its pretty sad when they start to research different products to see if they are worth anything before they sell it. Ive know that Salvation Army will look at the tags on the clothes before they price the product. All shirts should be one price pants another etc. THEY ARE DONATED!!! Maybe people should just keep the stuff and sell themselves.

  • Answer:

Places like the Salvation Army used to be for low income people to shop so they could cloth their children and themselves. I know the Salvation Army does do some Charity with probably a small portion of the money they make but I think the majority of it is lining someones pocket. I own and moderate a freecycle group for my area and that is a wonderful way to get things you want or need for free. Check out freecycle.org for more information. There are groups all over the country and they might even be international. People give away items they no longer have use for and you can even request items!! Its all done to help prevent overloading of the landfills with items that are still usable. Clothing, books, furniture...you name it and it can be yours totally free!! I would much rather give an item to someone in need rather than donate it to the salvation army so they can make money on it. Just my thoughts.

Ditto! I think of the S.A. sort of like a garage sale. Things should be priced as if they were used. It stinks.

That is so true , y todo se los regalan y ellos lo venden como esta nuevo, but I guess that is how they make their money, you know since Salvation Army is a nonprofit organization , they may be a bit skimpy at their high prioces, but most of the time they do it cause the need is great everywhere, and you do know that all the money proceeds goes to , all those who are in need like the homeless people, and the families who are low income and have not enough to bring Christmas presents to their little ones, so no hay que ser, but I will tell you GOODWILL, forget them man, they charge more than they should, now ellos , they really do charge a lot, and when they help the needy they keep more than they dishout to those in need, pero Salvation Army ...they help a lot of people and the money is mostly used also like when there are families who are having problems with paying their utilities, and this is where Salvation Army comes in and so maybe they charge a little high price , but when they help families , they really help out, I know I worked there, and then they also have to buy food, though most of it is also given but a veces they (Salvation Army) buy what is needed to feed homeless people every single day....and none of that money is all kept by Salvation Army of course they have to pay insurance, utility bills, and things like that to keep their organizations up, you know, so instead of just criticizin and complaining, all the time, think about it, maybe they are chargin a little high, but that is for you, for your benefit , i hope you are never in need, because some of that money they make is to help pay your utility, or to give your little one a christmas present, or a loved one who is homeless, and they help feed them too....God Bless you Juan Silva

I frequent a thrift store in my area where I have seen the stuff I donated, priced double what I paid for it new!

I totally agree. And, I chose to give my stuff to Freecycle.org that way, I know that it is going in the hands of people who need it.

Mama Royality

That's because Thrift Stores have become trendy.....
