Is North Dakota over the worst of the floods?

Flooding in Minot, North Dakota?

  • My fiance and I will be moving to Minot, North Dakota for an oil job. We were told that he would have to go up before me and live in the "man camps" until housing was back up from the floods. I know a little bit about the flooding there but I was just wondering about how long it would take because he has to go up there before me and just was wondering how long it would take before he could start looking for a place to live for us? Also, we will be renting probably so I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good apartment buildings?

  • Answer:

This was a 500-year flood event. Minot had 4000 damaged homes. They are *hopefully* not facing the same thing next year but we don't know how the winter is going to play out, and the Army Corps of Engineers has said they won't do anything differently than last year regarding water releases upstream. Get in touch with a realtor in Minot and let them keep on top of things for you. Everyone is having to rebuild, many from the ground up, so it could be well into next spring or summer before things ease up. Good luck.
