Can a 14 year old work at Dollar Tree?

I think labor laws in IL are 14 years old. You will have to probably get a work permit. Minimum wage in IL is $8.25, but if you are under the age of 18, they can pay you .50 cents less per hour and I would be surprised if they paid you more than the very minimum. Tip: When you take your application in, ask the name of the human resources manager. Write it down and make sure you get the correct spelling. Send a little note card in the mail, thanking him/her for their time in reviewing your application, tell them you are a responsible, dependable person and you hope to hear from them soon to set an appointment for an interview. Include the phone number they can reach you at. There are tons of people, even many adults, looking for work in jobs that typically are taken by teenagers. Most states say 14 years old to work. You just need to get a working permit (I think it was called?) and a whole bunch of paper work from your town's City Hall first. Normally places start to hire at 14 though unless there is liquor involved.

if you can't you can always "volunteer" and then have the manager pay you as a "gift" for your work, tax free and legalish ;)
