  crime is 98% not there, if your from a large city it is totally different, outlying areas are less expensive, if your able to travel see greenville or washington. utilities are elevated but you save a lot on rent...if your buying go foreclosure at berthapyne.com, cheap nice homes....traffic sucks everywhere, although any city is like that....minimum wage is the same.....charlotte has a news paper. why not check out the classifieds, i moved to washington from the DC metro area, at first it was a culture shock but now I love the inner banks......good luck
