Pawn shop?

Can a pawn shop buy an item from a minor?

  • I know a minor cannot enter into a contract, so therefor they cannot pawn items. But is a pawn shop allowed to buy from a minor? A friend of mine has a son who is 13. He went to the local pawn shop and sold his 3ds and game that he got for Christmas. She is very upset--she paid over $200 for this stuff and her son did not have her consent to sell it. I feel as if the pawn shop shouldn't have been allowed to buy from him in the first place. Are there any laws? I can't seem to find anything.

Typically you need a drivers license and need to be eighteen. Someone messed up

Yes, you do need to be 18 with valid ID to pawn or sell anything to a pawn shop. If that is what happened, then the pawn shop did a big no-no. I would go to them and explain the situation and if they don't help you in anyway, I would file a report to the city licensing department.
