Can unemployment benefits be accidentally overpaid?

Serious Unemployment question Overpaid Benefits?

  • I think i was overpaid unemployment.ACttually now i know i overclaimed. I started a new job and continued climing because i was in training for the first month. I collected about 2500.00 more. I continued collecting becasue since i have a sales job and was not making any commisions i thought i would be able to continue. a co-worker told me that was not the case. Im afraid if i call unemployment they'll try to charge me criminally. Im not concerned with paying the money back. Should i just wait it out and see what happens? I live in the state of washington

  • Answer:

If you call them, you would probably just have to pay back the money. Probably. They might even give you a penalty. On the other hand, if you don't call them and leave it alone, you might not hear from them. And if you do, just say you made a mistake and want to pay it back. Considering the state of the unemployment system, you'll probably get away with it, not intentionally, but it happens.
