How do I become a fireman?

How to become a fireman in california?

  • Are there certain requirements? How are the benefits, does it depend on the city or county you work in? I'm currently in the army. If I decide to not do this anymore I plan on being a fireman in California.

  • Answer:

You'll definitely need to get your EMT license and go to a fire academy where you get your firefighter 1 certificate. Those are the 2 minimum qualifications for almost every department in order to be hired, and be 18. Also, take classes at your local community college if they have fire classes. Yes it is hard to get hired, but it won't take 7 years or anywhere near that long to get hired if you have the proper qualifications. Take classes that will make you stand out when you apply for the job. Such as, Haz-Mat Tech, Paramedics License, Swiftwater Rescue. The object is to have a lot of certificates, and also have the ones that not everyone has. As for military time, that always gives you extra points on the interview. I'd say becoming a volunteer, is one of the best place to start. Good luck

First, you mean fireFIGHTER because men and women are eligible for this job. Why not look here for starters http://fire.lacounty.gov/HelpWanted/BeAFirefighter_faq.asp PS be very wary of people who cannot spell DEFINITELY correctly!!
