Where is a good place to buy birthday cake in San Francisco Bay Area?

  • I'm relatively new around the bay area and I need to buy a birthday cake. I'm a student so preferably more affordable options and accessible by bus because I don't drive :( I live close to Valley Fair and go to De Anza, does anyone know any good bakeries close by? Thank you very much!

    If you have a Mexican grocery/bakery combo, you can get a Tres Leches cake, which are sometimes quite good. That means 3 milks, including whipped cream & such. If you know any Mexican-Americans, ask around for the best place. Safeway's banana cakes are fairly good. I've ordered sheet cakes all decorated for special events at both Safeway & at a Mexican Bakery & liked both. Each has its own standard decorations, but in each case I insisted on a made-to-order simply drawn sun for our summer solstice celebrations & managed to get beautiful cakes in the aqua & yellow & white that I requested. Someone else ordered a gorgeous light green & white Tres Leches cake for an office party for St. Paddies's Day. Imagine that--an Irish-decorated cake from a Mexican bakery. Naturally, others have bought extraordinary cakes at local bakeries, but I'm not familiar with your area, so can't answer your question in that respect. Some people buy wonderful chocolate cake & also those that use that high class almond paste flavoring that is so good & expensive. I forgot what it's called. Good luck & enjoy.

If you can get on a bart, go to san fransisco downtown...theres a cafe called Cafe Madeline...they have the BEST mousse (i know you wanted cakes, but trust me, this is the best of the best!!). http://www.cafemadeleinesf.com/ you MUST try this place! its delicious! =) [the cakes should be around $25 and up]
