What is wrong with my Olympus FE-370 digital camera?

Where can I get my Olympus camera repaired in Sacramento?

  • I have an Olympus Stylus 1010 (purchased about two years ago from Best Buy without insurance) that decided it would be a great idea to jump out of my pocket at the beach and proceed to be water-logged and have sand washed into every single knook possible. It was off when it was dropped and fell onto soft sand, so I don't think there was any damage to the lens other than the water damage it could have sustained. I promptly tried to take the face plates off at the very least to get it the inner workings dried out, then stuck it in some rice for about 24 hours to take out some of the moisture. It seems pretty dead, however the red "flash ready" light in the corner still seems to work when the battery is put in and the camera is turned on, although nothing else seems to give any indication of working. The one light does give me some hope of a recovery. To get to my point, is there a relatively priced camera repair shop in the greater Sacramento area that might be able to revive my poor Olympus? I realize that it's an older camera as far as technology goes and a slightly better than basic "point and shoot" that most people wouldn't bother invest in to fix, which makes me wonder if there's even a place that would know what to do with a lower-end, non SLR camera. I don't want to spend a ton of money on it as I don't have much to spare and I might be getting a DSLR in May as a graduation present (it won't be swimming like my Stylus). It might be cheaper just for me to buy another point-and-shoot, but I'm extremely fond of my Olympus and would like to keep it around, although I'm not willing to spend more than about $100-$150 on repairs. Is there any hope of getting it repaired? And does anyone know somewhere that will look at it?

  • Answer:

The only place I'd recommend it California Precision Service. I've taken my Nikon and Minolta equipment there before and they've always been very fair and helpful. They could probably give you a "rough" estimate at the counter for free, but a teardown exam would cost. Just ask. http://www.camrepair.com/ I also see several Olympus Stylus 1010 cameras on Ebay here for $50-$100. http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=Olympus+Stylus+1010&_sacat=See-All-Categories

There is no chance anyone can repair that camera for less that it costs to replace. I have an DSLR Olympus that is barely worth repairing rather than replacing. Go out and get a new camera and just enjoy some updated features.
