Where to live in Philadelphia?

Where are good areas to live in Philadelphia?

  • I am transferring to the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) in Philadelphia and I wanted to know about any good safe areas to live within 25 minutes driving distance from the university area. Housing is very expensive around the university and it's also not safe. I am thinking about living in King of Prussia or manayunk, any advice?

    King of Prussia! that is where i live. low taxes and everyting is close by and convenient. I love it. Great school district too. Manyunk is fun too! it's a young hip town. Great for single people. Lots of bars and fun shops.

Lots of good places just outside city limits, If you go to Jersey, stay away from Camden. Upper darby can be nice in some areas and is great for public transportation.

Manayunk is ok if your young and like the nightlife. King of Prussia is good, but lots of traffic. Crime is everywhere, so you cannot avoid it. If your street smart you can keep yourself safe. Other places you should consider is Plymouth Meeting & Lafettee Hills.

I'd recommend going across the river and into southern New Jersey. You'll find much more affordable housing (if you look hard enough) and a much safer environment. NOTE: Stay WAY clear of Camden, New Jersey.

As Real As It Gets

Those are great areas to live, but with traffic on I-76, it will take about an hour or more to commute to Philadelphia. Haverford, Pa area is nice and a little closer. Another option is New Jersey, Camden County is 20 minutes from the city and there is also a train that takes you into center city. Some towns I recommend are: Haddon Township, Collingswood, Audubon, CherryHill or Haddon Heights
