    Of course, a lot depends on what you are looking for. A romantic hotel with great service? A business place, with meeting rooms, etc.? A place to go visit the historical sites? Without knowing more specifics, let me recommend three wonderful hotels in Philly, where I would be very happy to stay. Hotel Palomar 117 South 17th Street Philadelphia, PA The Palomar is a Klimpton Hotel. If you know the Klimpton group, you recognize that they do a first class job. Rittenhouse 1715 1715 Rittenhouse Square Street Philadelphia, PA The Rittenhouse is a smaller hotel. This is where I would go for a luxury get-away. Alexander Inn 301 South 12th at Spruce Street Philadelphia, PA The Alexander Inn is not nearly as classy as the first two, but it is an excellent hotel at a very reasonable price. Just don't expect the same level of extra-luxury service. Two other hotels that I don't know as well personally, but which always get good reports are the Sofitel and the Four Seasons. Both are expensive (especially the Four Seasons) but are reported to be well worth it

There are many great ones. The Four Seasons is a real 5 star hotel. Elton John and Billy Joel stayed there during their tour. Most of the major sports teams stay there when they play in philly. It is in a great location too. This is the place to go. Good Luck!

I don't know if it's the "best," but the Crown Plaza downtown is pretty nice. So is the Westin downtown. Stayed at both a number of times. Some people might say that the Ritz is the nicest -- well, it has a nice LOBBY. The rooms are very small and, in my opinion, not very nice for being a Ritz.
