Safe and affordable neighborhood in Philadelphia?

I am planning on going to Temple University in Philadelphia. Which neighborhood should i live in?

  • I am looking to live off campus after freshman year. I am a white male originally from Northeast Philadelphia but moved to the suburbs as a child but I still love the Northeast and spent a lot of time there during high school. I was wondering what neighborhood i should move to. I want a fairly safe, mostly white neighborhood or block to live thats with a 20min drive from Temple. I was wondering if Bridesburg or Port Richmond would be good choices? I am also planning on living in the area after I graduate and starting a family there if the neighborhood is not bad.

  • Answer:

Do you read the papers, or watch the news? The city is just terrible. That poor 23 yr old Temple grad that was beaten to death in the Independence Mall area recently. That's a nice part of town too. The Vietnam Vet that was pummeled by children in the northeast for no reason. It's a disgrace, and you want to live there. Open your eyes my friend, it is just getting worse. Is this were you want to raise your children? Spend your 4 years on campus. Then get a nice place in a safer suburb. http://www.philly.com/philly/news/breaking/20120115_Old_City_beating_victim_identified.html
