Um - you are looking in one of the worst markets - because all the "crap" jobs are being filled by people with far more education and experience than you. You probably won't get my of a reply being picky (no private or unknown cos.) That being said - you need a passport for the I9 - which is proof of birth and citizenship - and you need a social security card. Or working papers. Why don't you go through a high school? Most HS have a career counciling center... Look online at Monster, HotJobs, and the Daily News. You can also go to small stores and ask if they need help. Manhattan isn't easy at you age because a lot of jobs require you to be 18 (especially in retail - because they want to make you work at 8 am or 11pm - and last I checked 16 year olds can't do that). You get paid what it says it will pay - for part time jobs - you usually get paid weekly not monthly. So if you get paid $8 an hour x 20 hours = $160 - taxes weekly.

If you want to find a more "corporate" type job, try applying to Macy's or Nordstroms and see if anything is available there part time. That would look great on a resume in the future. Also, there are some big businesses like Met Life insurance and Chase Bank who may be able to find an opening for you. You will need proper ID such as a driver's license. Passport and birth certificate would not hurt, and chances are, you can bring in photo copies of those rather than the originals. Also, if you think you would be good at waitressing/hosting, see if there are any openings at some of the more well renounced restaurants in the area like Morton's Steak House; there is one in Manhattan. Also another option is to see if you could work at a welcome/concierge desk at a nice hotel. If you can find a well known reputable one, that could present some opportunities as you talk to different residents/guests and perhaps they can further help you with other job opportunities in the future.
