Acting Question?

Unemployment Question NYC-Acting?

  • I currently work a full time job but I'm looking to get back into acting professionaly full time. Most acting jobs are not long term sittuations. if I leave my current job to take an acting job am I able to collect unemploymet when the acting Job ends?

  • Answer:

If you quit your current job, you will not be eligible for UI benefits based on that job. If your acting job does not last for very long, you won't have earned enough money to claim based on that job. If you want to get back into acting, you'll have to start working where all the rest of the actors are working -- as a waiter/waitress. Then, when your acting job ends, you can get a job at a restaurant, quit if another acting job comes along, go back to a restaurant when that acting job ends, etc. I'd say that in most restaurants in the LA area, 90% of the wait staff consists of currently unemployed actors/actresses. Restaurants out here are pretty good about hiring them They're probably pretty good in NYC as well.
