How do you pick a pawn shop?

I took some jewlery to a local pawn shop several times and got money from them only to never pick them up?

  • now when i recently went back the owner tells me the jewlery was not real and refuses to give me back my ID and the piece of jewlery I was trying to pawn, He said he would call the police, Have I done something wrong. Can he legally do this. What should I do?

  • Answer:

I think you may have a legal leg to stand on...it's not your fault you didn't know it wasn't real and it's his fault for not checking to make sure that it was before he let you pawn it. Most pawn brokers know their jewelry...if he didn't know the difference between the real thing and costume, he shouldn't have accepted it. The problem is though that you may have to go to small claims court to settle the matter if he doesn't see reason.

When you pawn anything there are usually terms & conditions stipulating how long the pawnbroker will hold your items before selling them. If you have broken the agreement by not paying the cash back before the time period has run out I don't think there is much you can do
