What are the best jobs to have in New York City?

• I am a junior in High School and I know that I want to move to New York City, and need to decide on what to major in in College. I am trying to decide in the following things: Teaching, Business Administration (I am interested in owning my own business; would that be hard to do in the city?), Computer Science, Architecture, Law, Finance and Engineering. I am not looking for making loads and loads of money just because it's that career. I want to know is it hard to get a job in any of the careers above in the city? How long does it take to get any of the jobs listed above? Thanks for answering! Any information you can give me on New York would be great? Thanks again!

  Here's one of a zillion different avenues you might wish to consider: Take all of the hardest math and CS classes over the summer and your senior year. Do every single problem in your textbooks. Double major in the same when you get to college and take plenty of economics electives, plus whatever law and finance electives they will allow. Do co-op's or internships in the financial centers in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, London, or Boston; and get a business card from everyone you meet. Try to take the Series 7 exam early just to impress people. Ace your way through your university and go work for D.E. Shaw as a quant, or Cantor Fitzgerald as 'whatever it is they call their math & CS wizards." Whatever avenue you take, talk to your T.A.'s and your prof's about it, starting with the general questions your freshman year. Money is the root of all civilization, go make some!
