Is it necessary to close connections in urllib2?

Can my connections and experience in NYC help me to get a job in L.A. in the film industry ?

• I just graduated from a 6 week course in film editing. I was recommended by my teacher to get a job in logging/loading for a few months until I get more comfortable with both Avid and FCP. After that I should get a job as an assistant editor to gain experience, build connections and work my way through the system. My goal is to eventually become a director and producer for feature films. I'm becoming an editor to learn how films are made. Right now I live in New Jersey and am close to NYC. However I've been told by people in the industry that if I want to get into movies that I need to move out to LA. The only problem is that a job as a logger/loader doesn't get paid a whole lot of money and based on medical reasons I can't afford to live on my own working as a logger/loader(I've tryed factoring in income from another job like waiting tables or something but it's still not enough). This limits me to live at home until I'm qualified enough to make enough money to where I can move out to LA. So here's my question. Is NYC a place where I can build connections and experience that will transfer over to L.A.?

  I think if you keep building experience and working your way up, you will do fine. Get involved in your industry and meet as many people as you can at work to get your name out. Then you can use those people as references. You never know who you might bump into so be open to every or any opportunity that is thrown your way. It will take some time but you can do it.
