What are the major streets in Queens NY?

What's the correct terminology: Jamaica, NY or Jamaica-Queens, NY?

  • Hi, I'm updating the Locations page for my company's Web site. One of the branches is located in Jamaica-Queens, NY. I know that Queens is one of the five boroughs in New York and Jamaica is a neighborhood in Queens. What is the correct way to write the city? Should I put Queens, NY; Jamaica, NY; or Jamaica-Queens, NY? I live in Houston so I don't know how natives refer to it. I've heard people say Jamaica-Queens, but I don't know if that is the correct way. Thanks for your help.

  • Answer:

Jamaica, NY. Queens is the borough (and/or county) in which it is located. By example, you could compare with Atlanta, GA, which is located (mostly) in Fulton County, GA. You would not refer to it as Atlanta-Fulton, GA, but simply Atlanta, GA.
