Where can I purchase a general gift card?

Can I purchase 2 gift cards at Home Depot with the balance of another Home Depot gift card?

  • Somebody on craiglist would like to buy an item I have for sale. They are adding cash to the deal, but have a $500 gift card to Home Depot. I already informed the person I would need to go to the store with them to check the balance of the card to confirm it really has a $500 balance, which they happily agreed to. Thinking about it though the person can just write down the card info and order online a bunch of stuff leaving me with a empty gift card. I would like to see if Home Depot can give me 2 new gift cards (each for $250) so that the buyer doesn't have the new cards info. Is this possible, and are there any other things I'm overlooking here? Thanks!

    once you buy a store issued gift card you won't be able to use it for other gift cards you can buy merchandise only in the home depot store

Instead of selling it privately, you might want to consider selling it to one of the reputable companies that buy gift cards and pay you cash. You may not get the full value of the card, but at least you won't get scammed.
