How can i become a jewelry designer?

So I want to have my own line one day. I figured If i start out as an accredited jewelry Professional can i somehow work my way to still having my own line one day? I asked because they are different One works with the diamonds and knows everything about them to sell them, and the other is designing. I cant draw on paper to well (maybe i can but i really dont have that patience) What step would i have to take to get there? Where so I start? would it take to long
