Is my family right when they tell me that I'll never get a job in NYC?
-
I'm a 31 year old single guy. I work a part time job. I graduated from college in 2007 with a degree in television production. My part time job is as a paper carrier. I can't even get a job at a local tv news station. It has been my dream to move to NYC since I was 17. After college I was supposed to move to NYC with a cousin of mine. He told me that he was going to wait a year to earn more money. I said I was cool with that and that I could wait. A few months later I find out that he has already moved to NYC with a friend of his. He had no intention of moving there with me at all. He is now a successful business man there and um still stuck in my home state working a part time job. My family keeps telling me that I need to give up in my dream. That, if it hasn't happened by now, it never will. They keep telling me that I've been out of college too long and that noone will hire me. That my degree is now worthless. Are they right? Should I forget about ever moving to NYC? Am I, basically, screwed? What am I supposed to do now?

tv in new york is brutal, and if you don't know someone on the inside- yes you are screwed. go back to school and get a business degree and start an ad film agency or something.
Your family is wrong. YOU have to make it happen! Go ahead, move to New York. Make the preparations and go. Your degree is not useless at all. Sounds like your family doesn't want you to leave. Why should you give up on your dream? Really! Give me one good reason that a 31 year old single man would give up? What else are you going to do? Live a meager less than fuffilling existance cause someone said to give up? Do you know that the author of the book The Help, got 67 rejections before she was successful? Now she's a millionaire because she kept at it! Good luck and don't give up!!!!!
