What's the best restaurant to work for in New York?

Is it better to work in a bookstore like Border's or a chain restaurant like Applebee's? (in New York City)?

With restaurants, you can get tips and free or discounted meals. Very helpful. But they are high-amperage jobs when rush-time comes, and you'll be hustling on your feet in noisy chaotic conditions. Bookstores are at least quiet.
