Where to buy a wheelchair?

Where can I buy/find/rent/trade for a wheelchair in New York City?

  • I'm a twenty-two year old college student and for the time being I can't get to any of my college classes because I can't walk. I'm looking for a wheelchair that is reasonably priced (aka not over two-hundred dollars!), is fold-able/transportable, and is in good condition. I do have insurance, but without a prescription I can't get a wheelchair, and I can't get in to see the doctor until Friday. I'm basically going crazy trapped in my apartment. Any help or advice is welcome. Thanks!

  • Answer:

Dr. Leonard's catalog sells and ships wheelchairs without a prescription. You can also call the Goodwill store or senior center in your area, explain your circumstance and see if they know of any donated chairs.
