How do I increase my customer base?

  • I'm a bartender in an NYC/East Village Italian seafood restaurant. There's a lot of customers at the table, but there hasn't been much bar business. How can I increase my customer base?

  • Answer:

    always add value to what your doing. They need to know that the bar is an extension of the restaurant. Come around the table and introduce yourself and ask what they would try to drink, better yet after a few Q&A with the customers, make a suggestion of what typr of drink that you can make. Whether they order or not...give them your biz card with a coupon of some sort the next time they come back...

get some kind of draw, like the guys said happy hour, girls, singing bartender, dancing waitress, hell, I don't know. Advertise maybe, give special prices to certain types of potential customers, have a prize drawing once a week and have to be there to claim the prize. Sorry, never had a problem in the South, open a bar and everybody walks in the door eventually.

Wish I could observe,but I don't know the layout.July,hmmm,seafood,Italian...does your bar blend in/or is it a drab little arena?Splurge on some real authentic bread stick swizzles or something.Bakery could custom make some.Or some unique .Italian themed beverage(clamato??)/with unique glasses(even just the restaraunt name) to take home after a meal Sure they are ready to eat at tables,you probably need to catch them before or after..,especially a lone stragler waiting on somebody,or cab,etc.Put out mints,toothpicks,anything to draw to your bar,during or after a meal!
