Can employers force you to work on your day off?

Is it legal for nys retail employers to force salaried employees(& hourly) to work on their day off FREE?

  • Say FOR EXAMPLE you work at a Hardware store (1 of 8 stores) as a mgr. or hourly employee and they just opened a Home Depot across the street & sales at "Hardware" are WAY down.The owner & VP routinely show up at the stores threaten the managers with being fired if they don't start bringing up the stores and bully them to work on their days off WITH NO PAY while cutting hours of hourly employees and resorting to humiliation. All this while the owner goes on vacations and they get time with their own families but the store managers are being intimidated and bullied into working 6 to 7 days or get fired. What are the rights of salaried employees in the retail business??

    im sorry but that is not illegal. as a salaried employee, you agree to work as many hours as your bosses need you. They are not required to pay any more for working your days off. Sounds like the boss isnt the nicest guy in the world, but he is cmpletely within his rights to make salaried employees work extra hours for no extra pay.
