Safe place to live in New York City?

  • Safe place to live in New York City? I want to move to new york city. I'm 20, not a partier, and I want to live somewhere where the risk of crime is low. My budget for rent is 0 - $700, I don't even mind living with a roommate or renting a bedroom. I'm trying to get somewhere in life, and NYC is the best place. (This is not a classified lol, but I'd like to move there by march 2011). I've been on craigslist and other sites, but I also want feeback from the public. Thanks :) - martin

    Hampton Bays is the safe and good living place in new york city. But the rents in between $700 to $1200.

Try Italian Brooklyn, upper Manhattan... $700 is still too low budget, unless the appartment is under rent control. Try to find a roomate through Craiglist

With your budget you'll hardly find anything in Manhattan, but it is enough to find a room in a decent neighborhood. Try Brooklyn or Queens. If you'd like to live closer to Manhattan (more expensive, 700 would be a deal) - Astoria in Queens, Williamsburg and Park Slope in Brooklyn. Bay Ridge, Midwood, Kensignton, Windsor Terrace, Sunset Park, Borough Park in Brooklyn are not bad and more affordable. There are other neighborhoods as well - safe but not very aesthetic.

get you a sleeping bag and a cot and climb to the top of the empire state building the rent up there is real cheat,you just will have to alot of walking up and down flights of stairs,but for 700.00 you can't beat it. or if you want to commute move upstate n.y.

700$? The only place you can get that kind of price is living in the projects. Bronx or Brooklyn.

For 700 you might find an apartment with 3 other roommates. A one room studio will cost you 1500 a month plus utilities
