University of Michigan?

University of Miami or University of Michigan?

  • got into both the University of Michigan and the University of Miami. However, I don't really like The University of Michigan and the cold. My friends keep telling me to go there because "it's a better school" and that "Miami is simply a party school where you won't fit in." I don't want to make a decision based upon where I'll have the most fun or the wheather but it certanily is a consideration. If I went to Miami and perfomed exceptionally (3.86 gpa) along with high test scores could I get into an Ivy League med school?

    You and your friends are both correct. Michigan by far is the better school. A degree there will open a few doors for you. Compared to Miami it is cold. You can still go to Miami and get a great education too. You'll really enjoy the weather also. This is your trip through life my friend. Read " The Road Not Taken", by Robert Frost. Good Luck!

The University of Michigan is substantially better than the University of Miami in terms of academics, but Miami will give you a better social experience. You can get into an ivy league med school from either university assuming you excel, however it might be a little easier at Michigan. Either university is a good choice and if you really didn't click with Michigan, it might be better to go to Miami.

Getting into an Ivy league is more a matter of scores than which university you pick. Both Michigan and Miami have their own set standards. However, if you're looking for an academic focus toward your final goal then University of Michigan is a better choice.

YOU choose what to do when you go to school. Univ of Madison, WI is known as a party school and the first two years of attendance, you party and by Junior year, you have no credits to speak of, and are way behind the credits needed to graduate on time. Michigan or Miami- - I would choose Miami because of the great weather, more things to do and no snow to contend with. Decide on a major that will attempt to get you a job in this poor economy. Business and Medicine are always a safe bet.Do not get something that may get you super excited, but has no value in the real world; like a degree in ancient Greece. Business could get your foot into the door, and medicine, is only growning. Be a nurse, medical assistant, or a couselor. You need a bread and butter job to survive. Working at McD or Taco Bell as the assistant manager does not have the income potential of the other options.
