I was wondering where I could find really cheap college textbooks in the Los Angeles CA area?
-
As some of you might know school is starting soon and I was wondering where I could find the cheapest possible textbooks in the L.A. area of CA. What do you guys use to get your books?

Answer:
For the past two semesters I've been using bigwords.com and have been extremely thankful for stumbling upon that site. Having to pay for college on my own has been very difficult, but by using this site I've been able to save around $300 on my books each semester. So I would personally recommend using bigwords.com to search for the textbooks that you need.

I've been to college bookstores and have scoured the internet, but I have never visited a textbook seller I loved more than this little used bookstore in the basement of a public library. The Book Cellar is run every Saturday from 10 in the morning until 4 by the Friends of the Agoura Hills Library (part of the LA County system). It is located right on the edge of the Los Angeles-Ventura County line at 29901 Ladyface Court. If you go, exit Kanan on the 101 North, turn right on Agoura Road, and head just a little beyond the animal shelter to the library. There are a few small signs leading you to the basement parking area, but it's easy to miss if you don't keep your eves peeled. Books at the little store are available on a variety of subjects, and almost all are under $2. I have picked up countless college textbooks there that were very close to new for cheap and helped the library at the same time! Hard to believe, but about a year ago I bought a copy of Campbell's Biology for $.50, yes 50 cents, that was just one edition older than the newest. It was free of markings and had been donated by someone who decided not to take the course. Anytime I need a textbook, too, I can just ask the volunteers who work at the store to help me find one in their storage areas. Nice people, great books! As I'm sure you can tell, this is one of my favorite bookstores, and it is well worth the drive from LA city limits.

Mostly I buy online. allbookstores.com compares various online stores for you. If you really want to shop in person, A&R Textbooks in Santa Monica across the street from SMC has great prices.

Bigwords.com! they send you free stickers, and they get you the lowest price, and they will buy the books back from you! It worked for me and I am very happy about it.

We often patronize the Student Bookstore and look out for USED versions which are substantially discounted. Good luck!
