What can happen when you get written up at work?

If you get written up at work, and you sign off on it, and you ask for a copy, don't they have to give you one

  • i got written up at work, for a valid reason, and when i asked for a copy, they said no according to corp policy

  • Answer:

I have worked more than a few jobs in my life, and at every place of employment, you are entitled to a copy of any documentation that is housed in your personnel file. Documentation such as a write up would most definitely housed within your personal / personnel file. With that said, I would ask to see where in the corporate policy it states that you are not entitled to be sure. An email to human resources would suffice.

No, there's no law that requires your employer to give you a copy of anything in your personnel file. It belongs to them.

Normally you would be able to see such a document but if your company really does have such a policy that keeps records private even from the employee, then perhaps in this case you are not entitled to one. Like the previous answerer said, ask to see where that policy is printed in the employee handbook or other work documents before you give up so easily.
