What is it like in Raleigh, North Carolina?

  I lived in Raleigh for 3 years. I moved from Michigan in 2006 and left in 2009. I wouldn't say that raleigh is like other big cities. I actually wouldnt consider Raleigh a big city at all, I would consider it more of a glorified suburb, so if you are looking for a place to settle down, raise a family, and all that jazz, it is a great place. If you are looking for a city with constant excitement, it would not be what you are looking for. Downtown Raleigh does have a lot of fun things to do, their are plenty of bars and clubs to keep things interesting and in the summer they have free outdoor concert series. There is a natural science museum and art museum that are both real neat to go too and free (but accept donations). If you like to see traveling broadway shows the Raleigh memorial auditorium always has something fun playing. I saw, Avenue Q, Chicago, and Spamalot there and its always a fun time, and cheaper than seeing them on Broadway. It gets very hot and humid in the summer, but you're only about 2.5 hours away from the ocean and it always makes a lovely day trip. Winter gets cold, but doesnt last nearly as long as northern winters. It is a big College area, home to North Carolina State University, Merideth, Peace, and a couple others and real close to University of North Carolina and Duke. So there are a lot of neat ACC sporting events to go too also, or if you are looking to continue your education, there are plenty of options. Hope I could help!
