How to get a job in Dallas?

How can I get a job in Dallas, Texas living in Michigan so I can move?

• I am twenty two years old half way through my college career living with my boyfriend who is also half way through his college career. We currently reside in Detroit, Michigan and would like to move to Dallas, Texas around August/September 2010. The only thing that we need is for one of us to get a full time job with benefits. We can leave earlier if possible. Does anyone know of an easier way to do this? I have looked and applied everywhere and not having any luck. Thank you.

  One or both of you should go to Dallas in person for two weeks or so and look around. Apply for jobs and go on job interviews, check out neighbourhoods and rents etc. You will be much more effective in person. The only time it works to do everything from another city is if you're being recruited or if your profession is in high demand and they're willing to interview over the phone to fill a vacancy they can't fill from the local pool of available people. Alternately, if you're familiar with Dallas and know for sure you want to move there, and are reasonably confident you will find work then just up and go. You'll need some savings to help tide you over while you look for work. Perhaps check out Craigslist for sublets of apartments for the first 2-5 months while you get yourselves sorted out. Good luck
