What is better a electric key meter or quartely payments?

ComEd has been reading my meter wrong for over a year, now I'm paying for the mistake!?

  • I just received a $400+ bill from ComEd. I have made all my payments on time. So I called ComEd to see why I suddenly have an increase in my bill. I was informed that they had been reading the wrong meter for over a year and that what I have been paying was not the correct amount. Now I have to pay the new balance. I explained to them that I should not have to pay this because it is the technicians fault and not mine. Is there anything I can do. Why do I have to pay for their mistake? I am really bothered by this. Where has customer service gone, or the old saying the customer is always right? At this point I am taking this to a supervisor level, but I need to know what kind of ground I stand on?

  • Answer:

You probably should pay it since you did use that electricity, but they should allow you to spread it out over a year or so since they messed the readings up for a year.

Other answers

Consult with a lawyer regarding going toe to toe with ComEd. Write letters/send e-mails to the upper echelon of ComEd as well. Request the installation of a new meter. ComEd like the gas company basically does guesstimates(at least that is what I call them). A technician reading the wrong meter is totally ridiculous. Also, contact CUB(Citizens Utility Board). Make this situation widely known. Also, try the FIXER in the Chicago Sun Times.
