You will be old enough. Are you ready? This is a job that requires a lot of responsibility. You will need to prepare a little. You'll need parental approval since you are under 18. This may not be true in all states. So you'll have to find out about that. Ask your school counselor. You may have to fill in forms for the IRS. The counselor will know and will probably have any forms and other information regarding first employment. Collect any printed information from your town, county, province, state, or federal government. In the US that would include birth certificate, passport, Social Security card, driver's license, state ID, library card, etc. Make a list of references. The day care will want some information and a list of references. List any work experience including babysitting, neighborhood jobs, etc. It will also ask for personal references. You will have to give contact information for the references. Make sure to ask your references for permission to be used and to give address, phone number and/or email address. You won't need all of these things right now so start calling for an application or walk in for one. Someone will file the application and you will be put on their applicant list. Later, someone may call to schedule an interview. You will also be competing with other high school and college students who want a Summer job. Get the jump on the rest. The counselor should also know about any programs offered by the CPS or Chicago Park District.
