Where can I find a summer job for a 13year old and i live in the Chicago area.?

  Many jobs can't hire you until you are 14 by law. (We have laws against "child labor".) But there are some things you can do. Make up some flyers on your computer, advertising that you are available to help neighbors. Do you like to do yardwork? A lot of people need someone to mow the lawn or do some weeding. Make up a flyer saying you will do that. Make it friendly, stating exactly what you will do for them, and listing your name, email and phone number. Then leave one at each neighbor's house. After a week or so, give them a visit or a call, and ask politely if they got your flyer, and if they need your services. You can do the same thing for babysitting or for pet-walking services. Or for doing cleaning or odd jobs around someone's house with them. Those are things you can do at 13 too. A lot of people need someone to walk their pet in the middle of the day while they are at work. And it's fun, too! Check with your local newspapers if they will hire a 13 year old to deliver papers. Some will. You need to look in the paper - usually it's on the second page (first inside page) and there is a listing of editors, etc. Look up how to contact the 'circulation' department. Or get on the web and google the paper's website. That should list some people to contact too. Don't worry if you get the wrong person, because they will just connect you with the right person. I don't know how close to Chicago you are, whether you can get out to the rural areas. When I was a kid in Illinois, we could get work in the summer 'detassling' the corn. That work was usually in August, and lasted for a few weeks, but it was good pay. You would need to call the 'county extension' office for the county you want to work in, and ask someone there who you could talk to about detassling this summer. If you google 'county extension'+(the name of the county) you should find those offices. They are also in the phone books for the specific counties. If you know kids that are in "FFA" or "4-H" they may know phone numbers and people in extension offices.
