Help with resume for a big company.?

  • I am 22 and I am typing a resume for a big aerospace company. It's called Gulfstream. I am not sure what to put under the following sections: interests and activities hobbies Isn't those the same as extracurricular activities? I am so confused.

First brush up on your grammar - singular verb and plural pronoun as used here can get a resume thrown in the trash. I'm not saying that to be mean. Com,petition is tough now and you don't want to eliminate yourself with something you can fix. Second go to www.hallcountylibrary.org and scroll down to on line services them choose WEBrary / Databases. in the center left column you will find a good resume maker. Whether or not to include interests activities and hobbies depends on whether there is something you can put under one or more of these headings that will help you get the job. If the job is dealing with people and your extras are ones that require strong people skills include a brief summary of that, if you know the potential boss is a football fan and you were a 1st string player include that. If you started or led an organization mention that. If your interests are watching TV, dating sites and games omit them. In the years we owned businesses and before that as a manager I liked to see a brief and I mean brief statement of interests and activities because it helped me get an idea of what the person was like and how they might fit into our work place, One thing to note is that if activities are religious or political it is better to leave them out. This is because some screener may have been taught the old rule that such things should not be included and because there is no point in prejudicing someone with different views against your application. You did not ask but it also helps a lot in a job search to go to the company web site and learn all you can including names of managers. Then go to business networking sites like linked in and jigsaw and social sites like face book and look up these people and their contacts. You will learn something about them and how they approach people and since social scientists tell us we are all no more than 12 steps and usually with in the same country 6 steps removed from each other person you may well find that a friend of a friend is a friend of their friend. Also do a general net search about the company. has it been in the news lately? Problems? Achievements? new Directions? Competitors?

Are you completing an application, or a resume? I wouldn't be putting anything that's not work or education related on a resume. (You might want to get hold of a few sample resumes of recent graduates and model yours on theirs.) Good luck!

No, those are your personal interests and hobbies.. like, say.. some activities may describe some specific character lines that are needed/preferred for specific type of job. Like, ie, if i apply for accounting job, it may be beneficial to put on hobbies on my list that would indicate that i am able to sit in one place for a long time and be attentive to details (crocheting)
