Job in a bakery?

How can I get a job as a bakery trainee/apprentice in Atlanta?

  • I want to start a career in the bakery/pastry field, but I can't afford to spend the $50k+ on the culinary schools in Atlanta. (Yes, it really is that much!) Short of going door-to-door to every bakery in the Metro, I have no idea where to start. Any ideas?

  • Answer:

Local supermarkets would be an excellent place to start. A clean drug record is pretty much all you need to get hired. Bakery departments usually demand early hours. While working at Publix in the Atlanta area, the bakers would come in around 4am and work til noon-ish (5 days a week, full-time). A majority of the day's bread is baked at this time. The night shift bakers are focused on customer requests and nighty cleaning duties. If you are looking for experience, I'd suggest starting there. Flexibility with mornings will really help give you an edge if there is competition for hiring.
