Have you ever had a yard sale?

Yard sale... front yard or back yard?

  • I apologize for reposting this question, but I got no responses yesterday and I really would appreciate some opinions. I have had several successful garage sales at my vacation home, which has a garage and a large yard. But now I'd like to have a sale at my permanent home, in the city. I have a very small front yard and my garage is off of an alley. Here are my options for this sale: *Front yard. People who are driving by will be able to see my stuff and parking will be easy, but my yard is tiny so there isn't a lot of space for merchandice. *Back yard- There will be plenty of space for my stuff and people won't feel crowded. There is plenty of parking on the street. Plus, I have one of those semi-permanent gazebos so there will be a shaded area. But people won't be able to see the sale from the road. *Garage- I have a 2 and a half car garage, but it's off of an alley, so there's no parking available. People would have to park half a block away and walk down the alley... I don't think they will do that. So, given the three choices which would you suggest and why.

  • Answer:

Front yard, as it can be seen We had a garage sale in our back yard and they trampled the lawns

Stick with the front/back yard combo...I would put as much as possible in the front and use the back as overflow...so people can see that your sale is worth making a stop at...be sure to advertise your sale...I suggest posting a free sale at salenook.com with some images of sale items ( example: http://salenook.com/user/example ) and linking to it in a craigslist.org post to generate targeted traffic...people will see the effort and will be more inclined to visit your sale. Hope This Helps! Good Luck!

I always like the front yard sales!

How much are you asking for the yard?

Snipper

front yard because if you do it in the garage you won't have much space to put things in.if you do in the back yard no one will find your yard sale.

Backyard. Put a sign out front with an arrow to the backyard

I'd say chose the backyard. Just make a lot of signs that show towards your back yard.

Back Yard... Just put a lot of signs up in the front, and maybe Balloons to attract people.

I would place a few of the larger items in the the front, enough to make folks aware you are having a sale. Utilize the backyard with the other items.

If you put the bulk of product in the back then people will still have plenty of room to peruse. If you put a few plum items out front it will attract people and you can have someone direct them to the back. As items out front sell you can replace them with other items.
