Is it normal to still see roaches immediately after a raid roach bomb?
-
Hi, So I live in an apartment building and have had roaches. I've had a bunch of small ones, a few medium sized ones and a couple of really big ones. Last night i saw a a huge one, a medium sized one and a couple of small ones and freaked out. I took my cat to my mom's apartment for the night. This morning, I called my landlord and told him that i needed an exterminator immediately. I came home at about 10:30 tonight with my cat to find two orange raid roach bombs on the floor, one in my living/kitchen area and the other in my bedroom. Just now, i noticed a small roach on one of my tables. I killed it with my raid spray. I was wondering if this is normal, or if it simply means that the raid bombs didn't work and if i should call my landlord back and demand that he do something a little more aggressive than the raid? please let me know. Thanks!

Answer:
two things with the foggers. 1. Most active ingredients of the fogger will pyrethrin. It has been a known fact in the 21 plus years that I have been doing pest control that German roaches have become resistant to pyrethrin. They will be initially knocked over on their backs, but many, soon after will flip over and continue on. 2. The reason you can use a fogger as you can is because the insecticide, whether it is the natural pyrethrin or a man made copy cat that will be a very low rate is just a contact kill. There won't be any residual and the insecticide starts to break down rather quickly. So if there are any roaches in a neighbor's apartment that is working it's way to your home through the walls or you have a roach closed up in a cabinet, if the insecticide fog does not initially get to them, they will show up running about you apartment. I say demand more is done, not with a "maintenance man" but an exterminator that should do the job right.

In order for the bombs to work properly, drawers and cabinets should be empty and left opened. Try a roach spray called,"Orange Guard" (available at Whole Foods) . It can be used near pets and food.
