Where should a college student travel for winter break?

College Student Looking for temporary housing for 3weeks, winter break?

  • Im in college I just need it for christmas break. I cant go home 4the winter break&Isomeplace2stay until school starts back.I cant go home cuz my mom is a drug addict who hate me,she steals my money&valuables&sell them for drugs.My aunt supports her, she gives her money and whenI confront my mom,my aunt threatens to kick me out her home. Itmy aunt home,she buys food for the house and I have to buy my own, Im not allowed to eat my moms&my sisters food&stupid things like that.My family is very dysfunctional&hateful.I can't go back there.I cry counting the days when the breaks come. my home isnt a positive enviroment. Other family members always express how much of an inconvience it'll be to have people stay over so I dont wanna ask them. I have no close friends, and a tight budget.I was thinkin of stayin in a shelter, cuz the I can't stay @ the dorms during those 3weeks, i already asked. I just need some ideas on where to look for temporary housing for 1 month cheap

    Could you visit 3 different friends for a week each? You didn't say where home is or where you're in college. It's possible you could stay in your college town. Put an ad up in the bookstore and faculty section of the college post office, asking for a "house sitting" job over the holidays. People tend to go away on holidays. Be sure and mention you're a student there. If you get one, someone might actually pay you to come live there, and i you drive you might have some use of a car. I'm sorry about your dysfunctional family. Believe me when I say that you're not alone, not by a long shot.

I am sorry to hear what is happening to you, but I am not much of a helper. Why not go to a ski resort, go skiing for 3 weeks or stay at your dome with college kids who are unable to go any where during Christmas and create a Christmas thing with them. They to can get quite lonely too. Make it their and yours day to be brighten? It just a few ideas. Good luck and wish you the best of the holidays.

It sounds like a tough situation and you have the fortitude to get through it. I suggest you check into volunteer activities, which often provide room and board. The Red Cross is one possibility and several other organizations are looking for volunteers in New Orleans to help with gutting homes. Often agencies provide transportation to and from the city where the work is being done. This experience looks good on a resume. Good luck, sweetheart.

Check out hostels.com. They are temporary, very cheap, but good places to stay when travelling and some allow long term stays. Good luck and I hope you have a decent holiday.
