Whats your monthly electric bill for an individual?

Whats your Gas/Electric/Water bill like?

  • I am considering moving into rented accomdation and leaving my family home. I just wanted to know, how much, on average, do you spend on gas, electric and water? I work 9-5 and I am out most weekends. I would have a tv, shower daily, electric cooker etc. How much per month or quarter do you think my bills would be?

  • Answer:

    electric - 35 month gas - 45 month (winter) water - 20 month

Depends on the heating, whether it's gas or electric. Electric storage radiators cost more to run than gas central heating. One thing I would recommend is that if pre-payment meters aren't fitted then get them installed. The tarrif is a bit higher than quarterly but there are no nasty 90 day surprises and you can see how much you are using and when to top up, a bit like a pay as you go phone.

It depends on the square footage of the apartment and the energy efficiency of the building and appliances. I live in a 1750 square foot carriage home that was built in 2003. I have energy efficient (low e) windows. The gas during the winter averages $100 with the top month being $200. The electric bill runs about $100 in the summer with the top bill at $175 during the warmest month. Some rentals include utilities. Ask the landlord what the usual cost is per month for the specific unit you are interested in.

I wouldn't listen to any answers from anyone on here, especially if they're not from the same city or state as you, or even use the same electric/gar/ and water company. I may be young and have never paid a bill in my life, but I"m very independent and I know lots of things about the adult bill/mortgage paying part of the adult life because I communicate these kinds of things with my parents and stuff... If you're going to ask a question like this, I'd include your state, city, and utility company names. and luckily you'll get an answer or two, or just as one of your to-be neighbors how much theirs is I can tell you though, that the water bill will be the cheapest....in a home of 3 people that showers twice daily...washes dishes...does at least 5 loads of laundry weekly, and each use the restroom at least 3 times per-day.. it would probably still only be up to 60 bucks, and that's if you use water A LOT (like not turning off the water while cleaning yourself in the shower, and doing lots of laundry, and just not caring about how much water you use) , if you do those things, it should be much less, especially if you're living on your own or only with one other person. I can't tell you the electricity thing..because that probably varies from city to city...company to company....but I personally, depending on your light usage and the size of the accommodation etc, and since you're out most weekends and work from 9-5, I"d only put away maybe 75 bucks for that at the most ....I don't think my parents have ever paid a "gas" bill....simply because we don't use gas in the house..Lol, duh, but anyways, you obviously are moving or currently live in a city...because they're the only ones that use gas and stuff...I live in a small town in Central Florida...so yea...even if we could have gas usage in this house, which I don't know anyone in this town that does (but my family in Brooklyn, NY do) I don't think my parents would even bother, because I personally think it's very dangerous.especially if there were to be a fire or something..unless you're using a lawn mower...or bbq or something....but if you're in a city...and use gas...I"d imagine that it's cheaper than your electric bill...if not...I hope you make a decent amount of money at work Lol.

I live in Devon Gas £48-£50 a month Electric £40 a month Water (just gone up to ) £72 a month (If you add council tax) £130 a month

It varies. Not only by state ... Is this a small apartment? What type of heat? gas? heat pump? etc ... you can call the electric co in your area and they can give you some idea what it should run. I would also call the gas and water co. When I had an apartment living on my own my electric was about $90 per month, no gas, water was included in my rent.
