How to clean face towels?

Can towels (bath, face etc) be recycled?

  • I bought some new towels today, and am not sure what to do with the old ones. Should I throw them out with the general waste, or can they be recycled?

  • Answer:

Old towels always come in handy. I would keep them if I were you - you can use them as dust sheets when decorating. You can cut them up and use them as dusters. You can do allsorts with them but if you really want to get rid of them I would try your local charities if you think that the towels are in good condition. Failing that, do you know anybody who has animals - dogs, horses or whatever. I never throw old towels away as they always come in handy for something.

You can take them to your local humane society. They always need them for the animals. Or you can cut them up and use them for rags when cleaning. You could also cut them up small and mix them in your compost pile, if they are made of all natural fibers.

Clean them and give to charity shop or if too bad take to recycle centre as materials.

They can be recycled, another option if they aren't good enough to pass on to hostels etc is ring your local animal welfare place as they will probably take them to use with the kennel dogs or cats, this is what we did with our old ones and a heap of bedding too.

Must admit I've never found a better polishing cloth than a really ancient towel; got a neighbour with a workshop? He might be glad of some. Or, as already said, dog shelters and the like can use as many as you can provide - plus it saves the fuel used to cart them off to the recycling place . . .
