How do you know if your house has mold in it?

HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE MOLD IN MY HOUSE AND HOW TO GET RID OF IT?

  • In my home, under the soap holder in the bathroom in the shower there is a bunch of black stuff. It looks like fur or something!!! Also there are black dots of stuff around almost all windowsills in the house except one of the bedrooms and the bathroom window. My daughter also has some breathing problems when she's in her room. I'm not sure its mold, how can i know if it is??? and if it is, (which is probably might be) how do i get rid of it? Do i need to call a professional or can i take care of this myself? does it need to be done? what can i do to prevent this from happening in other places in my household? Thanks alot for answering!

  • Answer:

if you want health problems like respitory problems then dont do anything. if you dont want health issues go toyour phone book and look up mold removers. they will cleam out the mold and tell you to keep your house dry. try buying a dehumidifier from walmart for like 20bucks that should help. mold grows in a damp environment so dry is the best to prevent mold.

There are a lot of different kinds of molds. Some are easier to get rid of than others. Some are more toxic than others. There are professionals who can come in and test. There are also test kits you can buy and send out to a lab yourself available. They are available online and probably available from Home Depot or Lowes.

I think you have to actually have someone come in and take it out for you. Not sure what they would be called though

My family had mold in our house and we were continually sick until we moved. We tried everything, we had mold specialists, and they told us, "yes, it is there, but there's really nothing we can do about it" we used air filters and dehumidifiers, and esential oils to try to help with our breathing, and bleach, nothing helped. We were sick most of the time, and more in the winter than in the summer. There was no escaping except to move.

i used to be a painter and mold damage repair man, if it ain't to bad mix 1 to1 bleach and water into a weed pump sprayer or spray bottle will work spray the black stuff and shower. but if its eating away sections of wall then cut the section off and replace dry wall and installation to. keep kids away from it and pets try to replace asap sooner the better.

spray the mold with bleach and watch what happens. Bleach kills mold. Removing mold on your own is possible but it should be treated like any other hazardous material. In other words, you want to make sure it's dead before you disrupt it because it will end up in the air and a. land somewhere else b. make y'all sick. So, spray it all with bleach, then isolate the room (think Dusting Hoffman in Outbreak). Then get big green garbage bags. Then get a sheet rock saw and cut out ALL of the affected sheet rock. Now here is where it gets tricky. what caused the mold? You have to fix those leaks or the mold is just going to come back. Fix the leaks before you put all the new sheetrock in. In the bathroom get "green board" as it's less succeptible to mold and dampness. As you can see there's a lot to this, but, yeah, you're entire family is going to have severe health problems until you a. move out or b. solve these problems.
