Is this a weird Christmas idea?
-
I have a love-hate relationship with Christmas. I love the music, trees, lights, and all of that stuff, but I am tired of trying to find some junk to give someone that by next Christmas the recipient won't even remember. My husband and I are trying to be more frugal with everything so that one day I can quit my teaching job to be home with children. In that, I am always trying to find creative ways of being cheap without seeming cheap. This Christmas I was planning on making his parents (they are divorced) and his grandfather a selection of homemade frozen casseroles. None of them cook for themselves. I plan on purchasing the Glad containers that can go from freezer to oven and putting a nice label on them from www.myownlabels.com. Is this a good idea or should I just suck it up and go buy them a sweater? I know it is very early to be thinking about Christmas, but I enjoy taking my time to look around for the best deal.

Answer:
I think it's a fantastic idea. My sister makes all of her Christmas gifts for the family. She does homemade fudge and baked goods. She also makes individual (nice smelling) soaps and candles. It's always exciting to see what new things she came up with every year. She usually adds a nice bottle of wine with the present too. Good Luck!!

I think it's a great idea. I love Christmas - not only for the traditions but also because it commemorates the birth of my Savior - but hate buying bogus Christmas gifts. Those displays in stores always bug me, of stuff that would not even exist except to be bought by panicked people looking for presents they had to buy. We have given donations as gifts to charitable organizations. Last year we bought a "Beneficiary Book" for each adult.

i say good for you people always appreciate home made food and certainly more than the obligatory sweater, socks etc your own label adds that finishing touch go for it there are lots of things you can do and make

I'm not sure this is a great idea. It might be ok if they love your cooking, but if they don't, I wouldn't do it. Maybe since you are all adults, just have a nice dinner and invite everyone over, and skip presents. Maybe everyone after dinner can say something or write something nice about every person and read it aloud.

for the past 14 years I have been making my own christmas presents, for family, and friends, which they love so much and tell me about it all the time, they look forward to my presents...I have never done food,I don't like doing food.....this year I doing some white towels with their names printed on them,I do this myself,..also some of them I am giving them things for their yards...at the end of summer you get lots of sales on big nice things that you know friends and family would use in their yard,..so you buy them, and keep them...I have made from washroom things to yard things, also bought them at different times of the year and keep them as presents,....oh it's not too early to plan for christmas....as soon as it's over I make another lists and start...because I have 41 people to buy for,so to get this amount of money at one time to buy all these presents is hard....so good luck to you ...
