How do I plant his baby pine tree?

• I found this baby pine tree outside and I want to plant it outside. It is about 5 inches tall. I already planted it in soil. Should I use fertilizer? Will it survive through this winter because of its size? I live in Canada. Tips for planting pine trees? How much water should I give it each day? I couldn't find a good place to plant it besides my lawn, but years ago I removed the grass and put rocks. I dug until I saw soil, put the plant in, added more soil, and covered the top with a bit of rocks. Do you think it will survive? The roots are basically covered with some soil but I'm afraid the soil will wash away due to watering, raining, etc. Will it survive if the roots are surrounded by rocks?

  Pine trees are very easy to grow. Just plant it in the ground and don't worry about fertilizing it. Nature will take care of that. Make sure that you plant it deep so that the roots can reach down for water in the winter. The rocks won't hurt it. You can put a cardboard tent over it in the winter so that the snow will not weight it down.
