Will your refrigerator stop working if you store it away for about 2 years? will it stop working?

I put all my furniture including my Fridge into storage as i had moved to another city for two years. I'm planning on buying a new house and will be taking my items out of storage how ever a friend of mine says that if you store a refrigerator without plugging it on it will stop working? I have kept it safe and in an upright position and dont see what could make it stop working. She says its about the gas that eminates from the freeze coils?? Anybody here who can help ?

Your fridge will be just fine. Hopefully, you left the doors ajar slightly for some time if they have been closed up they can develop a smell inside Not a big problem. Just clean with bleach and water or baking soda
