Live next to a dairy and have a TERRIBLE fly problem. How do get rid of hundreds of flies?
-
A local pest control company comes out every other month. That helps control other insect and bug problems. But flies hang by the hundreds in front of my door on the porch. Everytime the door is opened the flies come in. I have two cats and five birds...What can I do to get rid of the flies? I hate to cook with flies in my kitchen...I hate to fight flies for my food!!!

There are these things you can buy at local feed stores. They're a clear plastic bag with a tablet inside them. You fill them with water and they attract flies into them where they can't get out. They smell like ****, but they work! I use them for my horses and they have a 110% difference in the fly population. You can also invest in a lot of those sticky fly traps. You can get them for like 50 or so cents at the feed stores. They don't reek, and flies just stick to them well like....flies! ^_^ Good luck.

I heard you can hang clear plastic bags with water inside in your porch area and the flies hate it. Fill some plastic bags with water and hang them - see if it works. I've never tried it but I've seen some hanging.

Take several large ziploc freezer bags and fill them about 1/4 full of plain water - and then hang them over your doors leading in and out of the house. You will need to hang several around your porch too. I have no idea why - but the flies will avoid the areas around the bags at all costs. the more flies, the more bags... Give it a try and good luck!

I saw a product on This Old House that will keep flies and mosquitoes away. It's hard to explain but basically it's a machine that uses a chemical dispersant that pumps out a smell that the insects are attracted to. The insects get trapped in the machine and therefore never makes it to your house. It's been several months since I saw that episode so I don't remember what it's called. I think it was around $300-$500. Search the This old house website.

move somewhere cold, or invest in a really good flyswatter

you might wanna buy a frog to set outside freely so it could eat the flies, you could buy a gecko and let it run free in your house, or you could move out of there

Walmart sells insect killers that have attraction scent things, you're supposed to hang them at the bottom of your garden to keep the flies away from your house. They run on mains so I can't have one but I bought an internal one, uses UV light and sucks them into the catcher when they get close. No chemicals or anything. Other than that try asking the dairy or thier pest control guy to help...

Move!

Move. Really. But sell your house in the late fall after frost so they don't notice the flies.
