How do I cut the TOP yellow part of my lucky bamboo?

Is is possible to revive my lucky bamboo plant?

  • I have a single stalk of lucky bamboo that I've kept in a narrow vase of water for about a year and half now. When I moved into my new apartment, I didn't have room for it, so I left it at home with my parents. The water wasn't changed for months but seemed to be surviving. When I came home for Christmas I noticed that the water had all dried up and the end of the stalk had started to shrivel up and turn yellow. The top half of the plant still looked healthy. Immediately I added water and hoping it would be revived; however the yellow has just moved further and further up the stalk over the past week. Last night, in desperation, I just cut off the dried out part at the end with a knife, exposing the still somewhat alive part of the plant to the water. Have I just murdered my bamboo? Is there any chance that this will work? Any other suggestions? And yes, I understand that my negligence is the reason it was dying in the first place. Thanks!

  • Answer:

Keep it in water and in a place where it gets lots of light in your new apartment. Also, I always put a drop of water at the top of the stalk. Do not move the plant too much. Once you've found a place for it to stay, for example near a window, keep it there. I hope it is going to be ok.
