How to promote and advertise a mouse trap?

Humane mouse trap to recommend?

  • My cat, Percy's, been staring at the wall in my kitchen for a couple of days and tonight I heard scratching :-0!! I opened the cabinet near the sound but nothing was in there. I'm thinking a mouse is making it's way up inside my wall to my attic. And since it's been very cold and snowy here in the Seattle area I don't really blame him for taking refuge in my house. I don't want to kill the mouse - I just want to trap it and then I'll let it free in the woods just up the hill from my house. I saw this trap online http://www.themousedepot.com/home.ccml Has anyone tried this one before or know of another humane trap I can buy? Years ago a mouse came into my home in Florida. My ferrets were out playing at the time and out of nowhere one FLEW into the room, grabbed it, shook it and dropped it. I was pretty amazed that even a domestic ferret who'd never seen a mouse before knew what to do. And I was VERY thankful he left it there for me instead of stashing it somewhere!!!! I'm not going to send a ferret up inside my walls, though, just thought that was an interesting mouse story to share ;)

I have tried many, many humane mouse traps in my office. All attempts were unsuccessful. Then one day I accidently caught mouse! I threw the core to a carmel apple in a plastic trash can (about 3 ft. high, rubbermaid office trash can) with no trash bag in it. It was just sitting under my desk. I did that on Friday, and on Monday morning when I came in, I noticed I forgot to put a trash bag in the can. I pulled out the can and screamed when I saw the mouse dead in the bottom of the can. He had carmel from my carmel apple on his face so I am not sure if he suffocated or what. Anyways I felt bad for the little guy but discovered a great way of catching mice alive. After that, I used the same technique but used apple cores, peanuts and cheddar cheese to catch them. No other mice died in the process. I think the mice were able to climb up a trash bag so without, they cannot climb up and out of the can. Just check it every day so they don't starve to death.

At $13.99 plus shipping, this is an expensive mouse trap. I've used Victor live traps, they typically sell 2 for $3.99. (Model M007 - here's a google search: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=victor+live+trap+m007&btnG=Search ) I like the idea of using live traps, but I've found you need to watch these traps closely to know when you have one trapped. If you miss one, they die pretty quick in the traps anyway, and it would have been more humane to just kill them outright.

I understand you wanting to set them free but they are just going to come back inside. Especially if it's cold in your area.

that is the best humane one you will find! another kind of trap would be a glue strip, but then you have to either throw it away or try and free it, and your cat might get to it first!!! i say go with this one!

We use Sherman live traps when we trap rats and mice at work (for research purposes). They are easy to bait and set up. You can use some oatmeal or peanut butter as bait. http://www.shermantraps.com/
