In ground pool-popped out during repairs. Should the tech have opened the lower drain to release pressure?
-
Pool popped during work. Tech emptied. Not normally wet area. Heavy rains increased hydrostatic pressure. Should the tech have opened the drain to make sure no pressure builds up?? What would he open to do this??

Answer:
I don't know he exact name or location of it. But in Florida, you must open some valve or the pool will pop out.

you can't drain a inground pool when the watertable is HIGH. I guess you found this out. hahahaha. I would send the socalled Tech* a Bill. He should have known this. A inground pool will "float" out of the ground.

There is a hydrostatic relief in most pools. When draining one the plug should ALWAYS be pulled and the tube cleaned out. This allows water under the pool to flow into the pool, thereby relieving the hydrostatic pressure. I guess this is nice to know after the fact, huh? Now, what to do. What sort of work was being done? Did you have a contract? Most contracts for pool repairs offer a hold harmless clause for the pool company in case the pool floats. HOWEVER, the tech did not exercise "due diligence" by not pulling that plug. I'd go after them like a rabid dog. As for the pool, it can be fixed.... IF you have deep pockets! I've put lots of them back in the ground. Last one I did it was cheaper to put in a new pool and use the old one to dump the dirt in from the new excavation. But that was on a huge estate where space wasn't a problem. Sorry about your hard luck. E-mail if I can offer help.
