How do you make an animal trap?

How can I make a mouse trap most effective? Where do i put it and what is the best bait?

  • I recently discovered a little mouse in my room, and bought a trap to kill it. I also bought poison but i prefer the trap so i know where to look for a dead rat before it rots away, but how can i make the trap most effective? I heard mice don't like cheese, and since i do not know exactly where the mouse is coming from, where should i put the trap? And also, my trap is a plastic one, with a spring mechanism but with a plastic, not metal bar: is it still guaranteed to kill the mouse? If anyone has used a plastic mouse trap and effectively caught a mouse i would like to know what steps you took to ensure best results. I have locked the mouse in my room, I found it there after I had vacuumed the whole place, so there should be no food except for the trap and the poision. Also and finally, since i have found no visible holes anywhere in my room, what other signs should i look for to identify the mouse nest? Thank you for taking the time to read my question.

Ok, mice like to go "along" the walls... (I guess it makes them feel secure and safe if they have thier bodies against something and maybe it acts like a guide to them). What you do is, put the trap so that the "spring action", (the place you put the bait), is against the wall, so that they will "find" it a lot easier. Now, mice can be tricky and smart. Its recommended that you put "two" traps together so that if they spring the first one, they will get trapped in the second one! (Yea, its something I didnt know either, until I did some resarch into this subject). Now, the best thing is peanut butter, or just plain butter. (my Wife and her family swear by this!). Also, make sure you buy the "right trap"! If your sure its a wee mouse, then get a small one, but, if its a big rat, then get a big trap. Yes, it "does" make a difference, as one will not catch the other! I wish you well... Jesse

hello. just simply you should use VICTOR mouse traps. 4 packs = appro. $2.49. For bait, use peanut butter, it will stick on the bait area and will snap mouse's head to death. I caught appro. 8 mice in a month using that tactics. It won't go bad until it kills a mouse. And don't forget to put it against the wall, if there is no dead mouse and u have waited for 3-5 days, re-locate the trap near kitchen's trash can or under the sink area. good luck and enjoy killing those creatures.

Mice love Mars bars

Try something sweet in the trap like chocolate, it does work.

Peanut butter is easy to use and works well. I don't know if i have used the exact mouse trap you are talking about but I have used most of them just make sure it is from a good manufacturer like victor, not some cheap trap from a dollar store The plus of plastic is that they don't rust and are easy to clean The mouse may have wandered in from under a door they only need such a small crack you may never find where it came in Mice roam and there may not be a nest close by. One of the easiest ways to know you have mice is look for mice turds. PS mice can carry hanta virus http://www.health.gov.ab.ca/public/dis_hantavirus.html so they are not harmless( although usually deer mice) PS good idea with not using poison. that works if the mice are are outside in a building but not good idea inside or in a vehicle Mice can make a nest out of paper fabric insulation just about anything. Mice like to run along walls and hide behind and under furniture and appliances Also you said Room not house. If someone else in the house or dorm / apartment has the mouse problem then you are going to have a real bad time getting rid of the mice.because you are just getting the overflow from their problem. If this is the case you need a pest control company to do the building or move. BY the Way KEEP YOUR TRAPS SET FOR A COUPLE WEEKS you may not have just 1 mouse

,My you are all so cruel on here.Get a humane trap where you catch the mouse and take it outside and set it free, quite simple, and the poor mouse comes to no harm how anyone can kill a harmless living creature is beyond me.

sanny

put chocolate on the mose trap and put it next to the couch

You can go to walmart right now and but some VICTOR mousetraps they probably come in a pack of three or something like that. They are very inexpensive and even more effective. I would imagine that the design of that trap hasnt changed since they started making mousetraps. After you get a trap that will actually kill a mouse, put it along a wall because mice like to stay secure like under things and when they do move it is gonna be along a wall, unless something makes it run across a room. Peanut butter does work just because it is sticky and the more he messes with the end of that trap trying to get that food off the more likely it is youll have one less mouse around. Good Luck!!

chocolate is what people are now using, something like a piece of mars bar. The little rascal is probably coming through a very tiny hole. Check outside your house and any hole which you can easily put your finger in is big enough for a mouse to come through. My last mouse in the house fell into the bath and couldn't get out so i had to get a neighbour to lift him out for me. It was funny watching him looking up at me. Hope you get yours soon
